So my parents have decided to bike across Croatia (???) and in preparation, they are pretty much biking all over Minneapolis. So this evening we headed out to Eat Street, which is basically all of Nicollet Avenue. This street is packed with restaurants, each one with it’s own style and unique flavor. We headed to Pimento, a Jamaican restaurant that has some serious Caribbean vibes. The music was pounding, and the garage-like door was rolled up to let people sit out in the beautiful evening air. The walls were painted yellow, and Jamaican art and flags were strung up all over. It’s a walk-up ordering system, and the menu is very simple: pick your protein, and it will come with rice, slaw, and delicious plantains. You also have to pick how spicy of a sauce you want… I chose the Minnesota Nice flavor;) Within 15 minutes we were served our dinners and WOW I’M OBSESSED. This is honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Minneapolis. This meal was SO flavorful: the chicken was blackened on the edges and had a delicious spicy crunch, but was warm and juicy on the inside. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and the mellow plantains helped to balance the spicy sauces that made you chug lots of ice water. It didn’t seem like there was much food when we received our orders, but by the end of the meal I was STUFFED. But it was so good that I wanted to keep eating!! We spent the next twenty minutes relaxing and enjoying some people watching, which was prime with the wide open door.If you ever make it down to Eat Street, there are tons of options to choose from. But if you’re looking to spice things up a little bit (literally), definitely stop by Pimento for a phenomenal Jamaican meal.
